Apple’s iOS 5.0 is finally here. The promise of being able to update your iPhone or iPad without having it connected to a computer is finally a reality.  I am in the process of downloading iOS 5 to my iPhone right now and with hook up the iPad 2 shortly.

It seems the mad rush to download may have been bogging down the Apple download servers this morning when the update went live, but it does not seem to be slow now as I downloaded the Quicktime and iOS 5 updates (~76MB) in just over a minute.

UPDATE:

The Quicktime Update was *only* 76MB…the iOS 5 update is almost 670MB. However, it is scheduled to compete in 29 minutes…roughly 3 Mbit/sec…very fast.
